The Paralympic Committee of Nigeria(PCN) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, have named 23 athletes and six coaches that would represent the country at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, holding between September 7 and 18, 2016 in Brazil.The PCN Media Officer, Mr. Patrick Ibeh, who made the announcement, further stated that Nigeria will be competing in only three sports where it has comparative advantage, which are athletics, power lifting and table tennis. Ibeh listed six athletes made up of five females and one male to compete in athletic events while 14 athletes (7 males and 7 females) are to take part in
power-lifting events. Table-tennis has three athletes (2 males and 1 female) representing Nigeria.Those that will compete in athletics are Hannah Babalola, Eucharia Iyiazi, Lauritta Onye, Lovina Onyegbule, Flora Ugwunwa and Friday Aibangbe, with Patrick Aieto and Adekunle Adesoji as the two coaches.Also, Nsini Ben, Lucy Ejike, Ndidi Nwosu, Bose Omolayo, Josephine Orji, Esther Onyema and Latifat Tijani,Yakubu Adesokan, Roland Ezuruike, Abdulazeez Ibrahim, Nnamdi Innocent, Opeyemi Jegede, Paul Kehinde and Tolulope Taiwo will compete in powerlifting. The coaches are Prince Are Feyisetan, Luke Ibeh (both men) and Patience Igbiti (female).Chinedu Njoku will coach Faith Obiorah, Ahmed Koleosho and Emmanuel Nick in the table tennis event.Nigeria won 6 Gold, 5 Silver and 2 Bronze medals at the last ParalympicGames in London 2012.
