The Paralympic games will be ending soon, here are five things you may not know about the team.
1. A gold medal has been won by a Nollywood actress
When Lauritta Onye threw a shot put 8.40m she not only won gold but broke a word record.
The Nigerian Paralympic gold medallist is also known as…. Laury White.
Under that name she starred in the Nollywood film Lords of Money in 2015.
Her performance skills were put to good use on Sunday night when she celebrated her victory in acrobatic style in front of the cameras.

New Super Eagles Coach wants Vincent Emyeama back...
New Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has revealed that he wants former Super Eagles goalkeeper and current Lille Osc goalkeeper Vincent Enyeama back with the national team.
Enyeama, 34, who unceremoniously called off his Super Eagles career on October 8, 2015 after a feud with former coach, Sunday Oliseh that eventually led to his captaincy being taken away from him and given to Ahmed Musa.
But Rohr, while speaking to journalists during his maiden pre-match press conference at Le Meridien hotel, Uyo said he knows Enyeama's quality having seen him shine for Lille in the last two seasons and wants him back in the squad.

Sport minister Has begged NFF to pay siasia his money
Youth and Sports Minister Barrister Solomon Dalung has appealed to the Nigeria Football Federation NFF to pay the U-23 National team's Coach Samson Siasia. The Minister gave the charge when Siasia paid him a visit Monday in his office in Abuja.
Barrister Dalung directed the Secretary-General Dr Mohammed Sanusi who was also present to ensure that Siasia gets the arrears of his five month's salaries. "Please pay him his five months' salaries.
23 Athletes to represent Nigeria at the Paralympic Games in Rio
The Paralympic Committee of Nigeria(PCN) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports, have named 23 athletes and six coaches that would represent the country at the Rio 2016 Paralympic Games, holding between September 7 and 18, 2016 in Brazil.The PCN Media Officer, Mr. Patrick Ibeh, who made the announcement, further stated that Nigeria will be competing in only three sports where it has comparative advantage, which are athletics, power lifting and table tennis. Ibeh listed six athletes made up of five females and one male to compete in athletic events while 14 athletes (7 males and 7 females) are to take part in

I won't represent Nigeria again - Mariam Usman
Even before she left the shores of Nigeria for Brazil, Mariam Usman knew winning a medal at the Rio Olympic would be a tough call. She would not pretend to be a magician nor claim perfection where there is none. Usman believes one can only reap where one sows.
The Commonwealth medallist in the +75kg in weightlifting says she has lost the urge to represent Nigeria at international events. Mariam was the only weightlifter that represented Nigeria here in Rio. She competed in the +75 category and amassed 265 kg. She finished 8th in her group. is painful to come to the Olympics and see people who are your contemporaries perform better than you; not because you lack the ability but because you were not prepared like them,” she said, while speaking to reporters at the Games Village, here in Rio. “For me, it is not just about jumping unto the plane

Pele to visit Nigeria
The three-time World Cup winner with Brazil is expected in Lagos for a series of events that will culminate in a charity gala Football’s greatest legend, Brazilian World Cup winner Pele is expected in Nigeria for a historic visit in August as part of events planned by the Winihin Jemide Series and Youth Experience Days Africa.
Born Edson Arantes do Nascimento, the three-time World Cup winner will headline a youth football tournament that will take place at the Astro-Turf in Ikoyi as well as a leadership meeting with Corporate Nigeria.
Famous for scoring 1,281 goals during his career, Pele won the first of his three World Cups as a 17-year-old at Sweden ’58 before adding two more titles at Chile ’62 and Mexico ’70.
The WJS/YEDA Legend Edition 2016 is a 2-day event (11th -12th August, 2016) focused on youth development and empowerment through a once-in-a-lifetime inspiring experience with Pele.
The event will involve football loving teenagers and parents, key figures from various state governments, the corporate sector and the Nigeria Football Federation. The event will include a sports clinic (Legend tournament), a Gala Night with Pele and other African football legends.
It will also include an auction of Pele memorabilia at the Gala night with proceeds from the auction expected to be donated to an eligible local youth football academy.
Pele has received an honorary knighthood from Britain's Queen Elizabeth II and was named "Athlete of the Century” and "Player of the Century” by the International Olympic Committee and FIFA spectively, amongst many other accolades.
This will be Pele’s second visit to Nigeria; the first in 1967, was occasioned by a 2-day cease fire during the Nigerian Civil War which allowed the warring sides to watch the Pele & Santos FC team play an exhibition match in Lagos.
